Experience. Insight. A Deeply Personalized Approach to Therapy.
Ivana Ross, MA, LMFT is a New York State Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and the founder of Electra Consulting, a psychotherapy practice serving individuals, couples, and families in New York City.
Ivana believes that meaningful therapy begins with understanding the whole person – not simply a diagnosis or a set of symptoms. Her approach is warm, engaged, collaborative, and highly individualized, creating a confidential space where clients can explore difficult experiences while developing greater insight, resilience, and capacity for change.
Education & Professionals Credentials
Ivana earned her Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy, Magna Cum Laude, from Touro University Worldwide and completed clinical training at Queens Long Island Community Services.
She is a New York State Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) and a Clinical Fellow of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT).
Ivana is also a Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist and has advanced experience incorporating hypnotherapy into psychotherapy when clinically appropriate.
Her continuing professional work has included the study and application of EMDR, and she created and presented a professional workshop exploring the use of EMDR in accessing repressed memories.
Areas of Focus
Ivana has devoted her clinical career to helping people navigate complex emotional and interpersonal challenges. Her areas of focus include:
- Couples and relationship therapy
- Marriage and family therapy
- Anxiety and panic
- Depression
- Trauma and difficult past experiences
- Relationship conflict and communication
- Infidelity and rebuilding trust
- Anger and emotional regulation
- Personality and interpersonal difficulties
- Grief and loss
- Fertility-related emotional concerns
- Major life transitions
- Self-esteem and personal growth
Ivana works with clients not simply to reduce symptoms, but to understand the patterns, relationships, experiences, and underlying emotions that may be contributing to those symptoms.
Couples & Relationship Expertise
Couples therapy is a significant part of Ivana’s clinical work.
Ivana helps couples move beyond repetitive arguments to understand the deeper dynamics influencing their relationship – attachment, communication, unmet emotional needs, family of origin experiences, intimacy, trust, and patterns of conflict.
Her couples work draws from established approaches including the Gottman Method and Imago Relationship Therapy, while remaining individualized to the needs and circumstances of each couple.
Whether clients are trying to reconnect, recover from betrayal, navigate a major transition, improve communication, or determine the future of a relationship, therapy provides a structured environment in which both partners can feel heard and begin approaching the relationship differently.
An Integrative Approach to Psychotherapy
Ivana does not believe that one therapeutic model is appropriate for every client.
Her work is integrative and individualized, drawing from psychodynamic and psychoanalytic perspectives as well as systemic, cognitive-behavioral, solution-focused, trauma-informed, mindfulness-based, EMDR, hypnotherapy, Gottman method, Imago, and other evidence-informed approaches.
This flexibility allows treatment to evolve according to the client’s personality, history, relationships, goals, and progress.
The therapeutic relationship itself remains central to her work. Ivana strives to create an environment that combines empathy and emotional safety with thoughtful questioning, insight, and appropriate clinical challenge.
A Multicultural Perspective
Ivana provides therapy in English, Italian, and Serbian/Serbo-Croatian.
Her multilingual and multicultural perspective informs her understanding of the ways family, culture, immigration experiences, relationships, and intergenerational patterns can influence emotional well-being.
This systemic perspective is particularly important in marriage and family therapy, where an individual’s experiences often cannot be fully understood in isolation from the relationships and environments that have shaped them.
A Personal Approach to Change
Beginning therapy often requires vulnerability. Many clients arrive knowing that something needs to change without yet knowing exactly what that change should look like.
Ivana’s role is not to dictate how someone should live their life. Instead, she helps clients understand themselves more deeply, recognize patterns that may no longer serve them, clarify what matters to them, and develop healthier ways of approaching themselves and their relationships.
Insight is important. What you do with that insight can transform your life.
Ivana believes that positive reinforcement and approach in life can help people with individual and interpersonal challenges. Through her studies, volunteer experience with various addiction platforms and working with underprivileged children, Ivana garners the skills necessary to assess and counsel a variety of psychiatric, educational and psychosocial difficulties as well as family issues. Ivana specializes in treating anxiety, depression, personality disorders, anger management, substance abuse and various forms of addiction.
